Simply put, your best option for getting to and around Plum Island for PlumFest will be via the FREE!! shuttle buses that will be available. The shuttle bus will run from the Plum Island Airport to points around the island all day from 11:00 to 7:00 pm. See the downloadable map on our “Schedule and Map” page (available in September) for details on the bus stop locations. The shuttle bus and shuttle parking are free, and one of the buses will be fully accessible.

Please carpool if at all possible! Even with the shuttle, parking area is limited, and the best way to ensure everyone gets here comfortably is to have as few vehicles coming as possible. Load up your cars and vans and make a day of it with friends and family!

Please note: as a barrier island, Plum Island, for all its charm and beauty, presents challenges in terms of access and the availability of visitor parking. The Plum Island Turnpike is the only means of accessing the island by land, and there are limited areas for public parking. In general, on-street parking is NOT allowed on Plum Island roads. There are a few private parking lots on the island (see the map), as well as a municipal lot at the Northern (Newburyport) end of the island, but please be advised that parking will be limited, and that driving around the Island from house to house will not be a viable option.

For folks bringing bicycles, there are two medium-sized lots (one on either side of the drawbridge on Plum Island Turnpike) where you can park for free (while spaces last) and then take a short bike ride the rest of the way to the island.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The Town of Newbury and the City of Newburyport have been very supportive of this event, but they will enforce all the usual restrictions on matters such as illegal parking, public drinking, rowdiness, etc. Please, be considerate and responsible neighbors, so we can continue to present PlumFest for years to come!
